Madworks NPM01 SAMURAI Single Blade Nipper

The Samurai Nipper has very good durability with excellent cutting feedback, all thanks to the use of a high toughness High Speed Steel (HSS).  This makes the nipper much harder than a stainless steel counterpart, and is more long-lasting.  The reason HSS has both good toughness and high hardness is because it is an alloy of metals and carbon steel.  This is also why all HSS products, such as gears, chains, and high-end nippers, will rust.  To protect the nipper, we must apply a lubricating anti-rust oil.

During production, when joining the two forged blanks together, a rivet is driven into the center at high speed.  This compression creates HSS powder, which, together with the anti-rust oil, are deposited inside the nipper.  As such, when you first start cutting with the Samurai Nipper, you may notice some anti-rust oil being squeezed out around the rivet.  This is a normal phenomenon due to capillary action and vibration during transportation.  Simply work the handles a few time to let the oil seep out.  And just like oiling a chain, the more you work the nipper, the better it cuts.

Moreover, this excess anti-rust oil actually plays a very important part in upkeeping your nipper.  We suggest rubbing the front of a brand new nipper inside the included MAD black protective cap a few times.  This allows the cap to absorb some of the excess anti-rust oil.  Not only does this remove the excess oil, but the cap now plays the role of protecting and maintaining the nipper as well.

After learning about anti-rust oil, let’s take this opportunity to understand the differences between how the Samurai nipper and MH-03 are made.  Both nippers are our highly recommended leading products:

Samurai Nipper:

1. The blade is machined by CNC.  This ensures each nipper has a consistent cutting quality and appearance.

2. The spring is adjusted to give you the best responsiveness.

3. Comes with a metal box and a black leather protective cap, giving it a home sweet home.  Using the nipper is like picking up a brand new one every time.
   

MH-03 Nipper:

1. The blade is carefully sharpened by our professional technician by hand.  It is therefore easy to see some grinding marks left on the blade.  The finish is not going to be as neat and beautiful as the Samurai Nipper.  To minimize these scratches created by different grinding grits, we purposefully polished the blade twice, making the surface as smooth as possible.  This also makes the blade thinner and sharper.  So other than some visible grinding marks, MH-03 is an affordable single blade nipper beloved by everyone.
   

Whether you preferred the precision-machined Samurai Nipper, or the carefully hand-sharpened MH-03 Single Blade Nipper, just buy one at a time.  Replace it only when the nipper is broken.  That way you will have endless nippers for a lifetime.
